RVK Studios is owned by film-maker Baltasar Kormákur who is a highly acclaimed director, writer and producer on an international scale. His background is in the theater but he made his first feature-film ‘101 Reykjavík‘ in 2000. Since then, Baltasar has been directing, writing and producing films and TV series in Iceland and worldwide. He has won numerous International Awards, including the Discovery Award at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) and the Prix Europa Awards.

Baltasar’s long-time plan has been to create a film village in Iceland with a Studio facility of the same standards as other studios around the world. The film village now offer over 6.500 m² or 70.000 ft² of Studio floor.

RVK Studios is a production company formed in 2012 with a focus on film and television. The company has produced movies including “Jar City”, “The Deep”, “Virgin Mountain” and “The Oath”. RVK Studios has also produced hit films, “Two Guns”, “Everest”, “Contraband”, “Adrift” and “Beast”, all directed by Baltasar Kormákur.
RVK´s first 10-part crime series Trapped launched in 2016 with international success, and 2 more seasons made since then. In 2020 the company teamed up with Netflix to create “Katla”, an original series that has been viewed worldwide since its release in 2021. Same year, production started on another Netflix project “Against the Ice” a historical survival film released in March 2022.

2023-2025 were two major projects in production. The movie “Touch” a romantic drama based on a bestselling novel by Ólafur Jóhann Ólafsson, written and directed by Baltasar Kormákur. The other project is “King & Conqueror” an historical television drama series for BBC Studios and CBS starring James Norton as Harold Godwinsson and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau as William the Conqueror. Baltasar Kormákur and RVK Studios were set to to create a medieval series with CBS Studios. The series was filmed at RVK Studios facilities in Gufunes and the post-production of the episode is also done by the company. The first episode is directed by Baltasar Kormákur.

In recent years, RVK has served as a service provider for multiple projects, including “Star Trek Discovery”, “The Witcher” and “Luther: The Fallen Sun”.
